About
Jean-Louis Herlédan is a graduate of the École Estienne – National School of Graphic Arts and Industries.
After studying art history and communication science and techniques, he quickly founded a communications group, which he led for 25 years.
Later, drawing on his family heritage, he created 1831 Art Gallery (1831 being the birth year of one of his ancestors, an important patron of the arts at the end of the 19th century). His mother was also an antique dealer; it therefore naturally made sense for him to continue the family legacy.
Located in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, at the heart of the Carré Rive Gauche, 1831 Art Gallery is a meeting place for collectors, artists, and professionals from the fields of architecture and design. It is a distinctive gallery, founded in 2014 by Jean-Louis Herlédan and directed by Benedetta Battocchio.
A taste for decorative arts, modernist architecture, as well as an ethnic influence, shapes the curatorial vision of 1831 Art Gallery. The gallery organizes thematic exhibitions featuring contemporary artists from around the world.
The gallery is also deeply committed to promoting the French art scene internationally and collaborates with numerous partner galleries, institutions, and foundations.
