The Squire of Alsatia : Overlord or Godfather of a thieves and miscreants area of London, named after Alsace which had been a troublesome area of Europe. Alsatia was in the Whitefriars district of London, near Fleet Street, and had retained privileges derived from being a converted sanctuary until 1697. It was the haunt of debtors and lawbreakers.
